The shift for this position is 11a-7p.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- The violence intervention specialist will be responsible for navigating health and social services with clients, peer engagement and modeling, group facilitation, and other group activities with a particular focus on youth and youth adults.
- The position requires the ability to engage with individuals in a trauma-informed manner, and to model effective ways of engaging with resources to support healing.
- The violence intervention specialist will be expected to perform a significant amount of community and home-based work and engage within a diverse range of neighborhoods of DeKalb County.
Case Management:
- Engage clients in the VPP, providing unique support, information and modeling positive behaviors with a particular emphasis on serving youth and young adults.
- Maintain a caseload.
- Work with participants to develop risk reduction and individualized success plans.
- Provide support and assistance in system navigation, managing travel, setting personal goals, and conducting follow up as necessary.
Community Engagement:
- Form strong, trusting relationships with community members, particularly those at the highest risk as well as other key stakeholders in community.
- Learn about violent incidents in target communities to assist in mitigation and work to intervene in circumstances in which retaliatory violence is likely.
- Assist in facilitation of workshops and group sessions with VPP participants and broader community as assigned.
Documentation:
- Document all contact with clients and potential clients consistently and accurately using internal data management system, according to agency standards.
- Track participant attendance in groups and activities as well as behavioral outcomes.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with VPP staff and hospital personnel to promote a team culture in which mental health, health professionals and peer advocates partner to support clients in their healing and recovery.
- Work collaboratively on transdisciplinary team with other specialists, hospital personnel and service providers to supplement case management support for clients.
- Provide education to help non-peer team members to understand clients' unique experiences, perspectives and needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED.
- An in-depth knowledge of the communities and neighborhoods, strong ties to the community and credibility strongly preferred.
- Experience working with high-risk and system-impacted youth and young adults experiencing complex trauma.
- Experience or training in crisis intervention strongly preferred.
- Commitment to working toward positive community change.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Experience in violence intervention service strongly preferred.
Job Qualifications
Salary range: $20.10- 26.13/HR
The salary of the position is based on specific criteria met within the qualifications as well as relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity.
