JOB DESCRIPTION: The (RUN) Resource Utilization Nurse is primarily responsible for responding to all Adult Rapid Response Team events serving as a resource to support the patient during stabilization and transfer to an ICU. Coordinates and delivers care to patient (s) with complex nursing care needs to ensure the highest level of safety and quality while promoting a positive patient experience. Acts as a consultant for nursing staff in the clinical management of patients. Exhibits a demeanor that invites utilization by staff for problem solving. Acts as the first level of support for the bedside nursing team when the condition of a patient is in question or jeopardy. Assists in determining when to escalate a rapid response. Facilitates early and rapid transition of patients to a higher level of care.
Rounding on ICU patients that have transferred out of the Intensive care unit and patients who have been transferred to the ICUs post Code Met or Code Blue within 24 hours to enhance continuity of care, communication and customer service. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Provide tracking, data collection and monitoring of metrics used to measure the productivity and quality of care delivered. Collaborates with other team members in the assessment, management, treatment and transfer of patients as applicable, promoting effective team interaction and communication.
Identifies evolving high risk patient populations and directs care per established protocols to ensure timeliness of core measures interventions for inpatient STEMI, Stroke and/or Sepsis. Screens patients identified as high risk utilizing scoring methodologies and intervenes per established protocols. Identifies current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations, critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status, and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses. Serves as a patient advocate by independently communicating clinical concerns in a timely manner to other members of the health care team. Provides input to the orientation program for new staff. Conducts the individual orientation for new staff. Conducts and evaluates formal unit-based education programs. Completes all annual mandatory competencies within designated time frame. Completes follow up assessment of patients post RRT event who remain on non-critical care units. Documents RRT events, reports and follows up on identified issues. Provides feedback to staff in areas where the RRT event occurred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. 3 yrs critical care experience and ability to manage patients in all specialties of Emory Critical Care. CCRN preferred. BLS, ACLS, and Healthcare Provider certifications required.
