As a Device Integration Engineer at Emory Digital, your primary responsibility will be to ensure seamless integration and operation of biomedical, telehealth, and medical devices at Emory Healthcare. You will work with cross-functional teams including biomedical engineers, Emory Digital application and technical professionals, and healthcare providers to achieve efficient, secure, and reliable device integration, data exchange, and system interoperability. 

Integration Planning and Business Relationships: Weekly on-site collaboration with stakeholders to develop comprehensive integration plans for medical devices, telehealth, and biomedical systems.

Customer Service: Provides incident support to customers regarding medical device integration related issues. Communicate courteously and effectively to ensure customer and service level standards are successfully met and escalates difficult calls and customers issues to Emory Digital Technical Leadership.

Leadership: Must be able to work effectively with others to achieve a very high level of application systems availability and integration. Comfortable to reach out and engage other teams or vendors as needed.

Quality: Follows established procedures to comply with HIPPA guidelines for PHI data. Regularly updates tickets to ensure customers are kept informed of the issue resolution progress.

Reporting and Data Management: Follows established procedures to comply with HIPPA guidelines for PHI data which is transferred from medical devices to the EMR. Device Integration

Operations: Provides, as needed, on-site investigation, troubleshooting and issue resolution. Demonstrates ability to perform device integration tasks and troubleshooting. Participates in daily huddles and monthly staff meetings. Tracks work within productivity tools. Demonstrates ability to perform basic device integration tasks and troubleshooting issues with device integration systems. Lead the integration efforts for new biomedical, telehealth, and medical devices, working closely with vendors, biomedical engineers, and Emory Digital. Perform compatibility and technical assessments, conduct integration testing, and oversee the deployment and configuration of devices.

Standards of Practice: Demonstrates ability to perform entry-level workflow analysis. Follows ITIL best practices. Technical Skills: Basic technical knowledge of EMR, medical device integration systems, Microsoft Office suite applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of application systems/administration experience OR a bachelor's degree and 1 year experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and data manipulation.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others to achieve a very high level of systems availability and integration.
  • Must have good technical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to device integration and data exchange.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Biomed support background a plus. Proficient in at least two computer languages. Proficiency in healthcare data standards and protocols, including HL7, DICOM, FHIR, telehealth standards, and medical device interoperability standards. Experience with integration technologies and tools, such as middleware, interface engines, API frameworks, and protocols (e.g., REST, SOAP). Familiarity with healthcare information systems, such as electronic health records (EHRs), clinical information systems (CIS), and telehealth platforms (Epic, Philips Capsule and Amwell preferred). Relevant certifications, such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM), are a plus.

Job Qualifications

Position is hybrid: On site requirement 1x per week. 

Device Integration Engineer Levels I-IV $32.81/ph- 86.61/ph

The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each level, relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity.  This position is eligible for shift differentials. 

Physical Requirements: (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. Environmental Requirements: Factors affecting environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
